Meet Alicia

Registered Kinesiologist, YTT 200 hr

Welcome! My name is Alicia Oliveira.

I grew up in the small town called West Lorne. I spent my childhood figure skating, playing soccer, drawing and hanging out with my cousins and school friends. I come from a large Portuguese family; we are all close and truly cherish the relationships we have with each other. After high school I ventured to the University of Windsor where I obtained a bachelor's degree with honors in Human Kinetics. I then went to Fanshawe College for a Post Graduate Certificate with honors in Ergonomics & Injury Prevention and shortly after I completed a 200hr Hatha & Restorative Yoga Teacher training with Aura Wellness! I have been an R. Kin since 2018 and primarily work in the rehabilitation field in a community setting. I have completed a handful of courses related to Pelvic Health from Pelvic Health Solutions, Embodia, the University of Alberta with Dianna Macdonald and several courses with the innovative Antony Lo and Julie Wiebe. I am registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, a member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association, and Canadian Kinesiologist Alliance.

I am passionate about supporting my client’s with their pelvic health and overall wellness goals! When I'm not working, you'll find me running, lifting, playing golf, snowboarding, watching live sports and spending quality time with my friends, family and my best friend/partner.

Woman standing with a bag of groceries in her hand. This image illustrates the importance of recruiting multiple muscle groups to complete one task. Commonly, in the pelvic health world, we often hear we need to strengthen our pelvic floor to prevent leaks, pain etc. However, research suggests activating multiple core muscles syngeristically will actually help prevent leaks, pain etc.

Kegals Not Doing the Trick?

Pelvic health can often feel complex and overwhelming. However, researchers like Nygaard, Zhang, and Hodges are dedicated to unraveling the intricacies of pelvic health and neuromuscular function for both practitioners and patients. Their findings suggest that simply focusing on "Kegels" or relaxing the pelvic floor may not fully address issues like leaking, diastasis, pelvic organ prolapse or pain with physical activities. Instead, we can engage or relax other parts of our deep inner core, adjust our breath mechanics among many other strategies to support our bodies better. Just as you wouldn’t rely on one muscle to lift a grocery bag, we need to tap into our other systems and muscles  synergistically to prevent leaks, stretching, pelvic pain or pressure (among other symptoms) effectively.

Move in Synergy's ultimate goal is to empower you with the tools and knowledge to effectively use your body mechanics, thus supporting your entire core in the process. Together, we can work towards enhancing your overall well-being. Let's embark on this journey to a more confident you!
